Position Description

At ChristianaCare, we take great pride in being one of the largest healthcare providers in the Mid-Atlantic Region. With multiple hospitals and over 1,300 beds, we have an exciting opportunity available for a part-time Wound/Ostomy/Continence Nurse (WOCN) to join our team at the Newark Campus, with occasional support needed at the Wilmington Campus. Throughout an 8-week orientation, you will have the chance to familiarize yourself with both campuses, although the majority of your time will be dedicated to Newark. This unique career opportunity offers the chance to work independently, making it an ideal fit for those who appreciate autonomy.

As part of the ChristianaCare family, you will have access to a range of incredible work/life benefits. This includes an annual membership to care.com, backup care services for dependents through Care@Work, retirement planning services, financial coaching, fitness and wellness reimbursement, and extraordinary discounts with various vendors for hotels, rental cars, theme parks, shows, sporting events, movie tickets, and much more! Additionally, our comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits are available to our caregivers from day one of employment. We also offer two retirement planning options, a 403(b) and a defined contribution plan, ensuring that you can plan for your future.

As a Wound Care Registered Nurse, your primary responsibility will be to serve as a clinical resource and consultant for the acute and rehabilitative care of select disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. This role offers an outstanding opportunity for an expert RN to showcase their skills in an autonomous work environment. While support is always available upon request, there is freedom to determine the best course of action and successfully implement it. This part-time position requires you to work 40 hours per pay period, with a schedule of Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. During each pay period, you will work 2 days one week and 3 days the other week, allowing for a balanced workload. Weekends are not typically required, although occasional availability may be required based on business needs. Importantly, there is no on-call or overnight work during holidays.

Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Serving as a consultant in the management of patients with wounds, ostomies, fistulas, incontinence issues, and other related conditions.
  • Facilitating the learning process for patients and their families who are dealing with wounds, ostomies, and/or incontinence. This will involve inspiring changes in behavior, knowledge, attitudes, and psychomotor skills.
  • Demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide appropriate care to patients of all ages, ranging from infants to geriatric individuals.
  • Providing educational programs to our internal caregivers for the purpose of developing skills, and knowledge related to patients/families with wounds, ostomies, fistulas, and/or incontinence.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as a minimum requirement. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in acute care nursing.
  • Leadership experience is preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Delaware or a compact state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • WOCN certification is preferred, or completion of certification within two years of starting in the role.

If you are a dedicated and conscientious nurse with a specialization in wound, ostomy, and continence care, we invite you to apply for this position. Join ChristianaCare and be a part of a premier healthcare team passionate about delivering excellent patient care. Apply today to advance your career!
